Training to learn perfect pitch is a controversial topic. There are questions concerning whether it is usually learned at a young age of if an infant is simply born with the ability. The majority of people agree it is most likely learned at a young age. Some people compare learning perfect pitch to the learning of the phonemes of language. These are the short sounds in language. The “d” or “g” sounds, for example. If a sentence is a melody then these could be said to be the notes. However, phonemes can only exist within a time-frame. The shape of a particular phoneme is determined by the variance in sound over the time it takes to pronounce the phoneme. Time is not relied upon for perfect pitch. Perfect pitch recognition is rather like harmonic spectrum recognition. The frequency dimensions of the sound are used, as oppose to time. One more example is when a person is able to recognize a person just by hearing their voice. One can always recognize a mothers’ voice, no matter what she is saying or even, what mood she is in. Without thinking about it, one can recognize a voice instantly. This ability is actually quite amazing, when one thinks about it. Because of the many advantages of singing, it has become one of the favorite pastimes of many people. You see people singing everywhere, in church, at home, in school, etc. It is truly pleasurable and capable of lifting everyone’s spirits. There are different genres of singing these days.
